Obituary for Betty Sue "Susie" Steen

Betty Sue (“Susie”) Steen joined her Heavenly Father on Friday, January 31, 2020, lovingly surrounded by her family. Born June 12, 1942, in West, MS, to Hallie and Estes Grace, Susie married Joe Steen on March 3, 1963, and together they made their home in Florence, MS for 21 years before moving to Mobile, AL, in 1984.
A loving and devoted wife, mother, friend and “Nana,” Susie was known for her love of cooking and preparing delicious meals, especially gumbo, fried chicken, and her special mac and cheese. She also made a special impact on the students and coworkers as an Office Manager in the Financial Aid Department at Spring Hill College. Susie felt most at home while spending time with her family and friends at their family condo in Perdido Key, FL.
Susie is survived by Joe Steen, her husband of 56 years, Susan Steen Price (Roy) of Mobile, AL, Robert Brian Steen (Mikayla) of Winston-Salem, NC, and six beloved grandchildren – Carrie Price, Catherine Price and Callie Price, all of Birmingham, AL, and Mary Steen, Hannah Steen and Joseph Steen, all of Winston-Salem, NC. She is also survived by many friends and family members who were very dear to her, including her sister, Linda Grace Martin, of Hazlehurst, MS.
Visitation will be held at Christ United Methodist Church on Monday, February 3, 2020, at 12:30 p.m., immediately followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2 pm.
Special thanks for the loving care provided by Southern Cancer Center and her nurse, Jessica, of Springhill Home Health & Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Christ United Methodist Church Youth Program, 6101 Grelot Rd., Mobile, AL 36609.
