Mr. Francis Hays Thompson, age 94, a longtime resident of Mobile, Alabama passed away on Monday, April 8, 2019. Hays was born 8 January 1925 in the Panama Canal Zone to Hays Brown Thompson and Edith McDermott Thompson. He was a devoted Catholic whose deep religious faith was an integral part of his life. He was very proud of his Irish heritage, but the single most important thing to him was his family which he passed onto all of his children, their families, and his nieces and nephews. Hays was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Patricia Carey Thompson, parents Hays Brown and Edith McDermott Thompson, his son, Steve Thompson, and his sisters Mary Catherine Martin, Edith Schmidt, and Aimee Thompson. Hays was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church for over 50 years. He had enjoyed sharing his experiences while at the Catholic Boys Home and the Brothers of the Sacred Heart. He was a graduate of McGill Institute Class of 1943, Springhill College Class of 1950. Hays was an Aviation Machinist Mate for the United States Navy in the Pacific during World War II. The family would like to extend their most sincere gratitude to Dad’s wonderful caregivers, Sharon Rivers and Tanya Bosarge, as well as, Dr. Allison Douglas, Dr. Romsel Ang, Dr. Chris Brown, and his neighbors on Swansea Drive. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church from 8:30-10:30 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass with internment at Catholic Cemetery immediately following Mass.
