Obituary for Leo Adrian Dekle

Leo Adrian Dekle – A native and lifelong resident of Mobile departed this earth at the age of 91 on November 9th, 2019.

He graduated from McGill Institute and attended Spring Hill College. He was a captain in the U.S. Army (Infantry), Dixie Division. He was instrumental in establishing the H.L. Sonny Callahan Airport. He was a lifelong member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. He served on the Board of Mastin School of Nursing, Mobile County Hospital Board, and the University of South Alabama Medical Center. He was president of Modern Industries and serve on the Board of the National Swimming Pool Foundation. He was president of Dekle Foods, Inc. and retired as vice-president of Fruit Distributing Company. He served on the Advisory Board of The Little Sisters of the Poor and was instrumental in their fund raising. He was a life long member of a Mobile Mystical Society. He was in charge of the renovations of The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. He received a Papal appointment to serve as a Knight of St. Gregory.

He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Katherine Horner Dekle, his son Brian Arthur Dekle, His parents Arthur Utah Dekle and Emilie Gloria Gonzales Dekle and his younger brother Daniel Arthur Dekle.

He is survived by his children, Leo Adrian Dekle, Jr., David Nelson (Jane) Dekle, Emilie Dekle (Stephen) Barnett, Paul Thomas (Lori) Dekle, Mary Kay Dekle (Dr. Matthew) Eves, LTC (Retired) Michael John (Stephanie) Dekle. Carl Duncan (Lynn) Dekle, Eric Carey (Deidra) Dekle, daughter-in-law, Julie Dekle, brother Thomas Sebastian Dekle, and sister Susan Emilie Dekle Evans, 21 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.

Leo had a passion for hard work and discipline. Faith and family was always first and foremost. He loved flying, sailing and fishing on Mobile Bay. He had a great sense of humor and always had a joke ready. He was proud of his Spanish heritage and was always a perfect gentleman.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. on Friday, November 15, 2019 at the Family Life Center at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Friday at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Interment will be in Catholic Cemetery.
