Obituary for Luther Erwin Clements

Luther E. Clements, age 91, passed away at Providence Hospital Friday, December 28, 2018, in Mobile, Alabama. He was born February 22, 1927, in Millry, Alabama, to Noel and Ester Clements. From the time he was a child, everyone called him "Bud". He graduated from Millry High School and then received his Bachelors of Science degree in accounting from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University) in 1950. Immediately after graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and served during the occupation of Germany after World War II and then later served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. After his service, Bud moved to Mobile to begin his professional career as a Certified Public Accountant where he met the love of his life Myrtle Lee Howell. Bud and Myrt were married in 1953, in Mobile, where they raised their children and loved each other for over 61 years. Bud lost Myrt in 2015, but is survived by his children, Stephen E. Clements, Cynthia C. Young, both of Mobile, Alabama, and Katey (Russell) Windsor of Birmingham, Alabama; one brother Dee Clements; his grandchildren, Austin (Ellen) Young of Mobile, Alabama, Alexandra (Evan) Schmelzle of Nashville, Tennessee, Jordan Young of San Diego, California, Davis, Zach and Kirby Windsor of Birmingham, Alabama; two great grandchildren, Haley and Andrew Young of Mobile, Alabama; nieces, nephews, and other relatives together with countless friends. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Tanner Williams United Methodist Church, 1550 North Grand Bay Wilmer Road, with a visitation at 10:30 a.m. at the church before the service. Interment to follow at Joyner Cemetery followed by lunch at Tanner Williams United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the University of South Alabama to the Luther E. Clements Scholarship in Accounting through the University's Development Office. His life was marked by a deep love for family, friends, church, travel, and gardening. Arrangements by Ascension Funerals and Cremations, 1016 Hillcrest Road, Mobile, Alabama 36695.
