Obituary for Marilyn Sue Patrick

Marilyn Sue Patrick, who loved her family, her church, crafting, Elvis, sequins, butterflies, the color purple, and good food, died on Thursday, November 28. She was 77. Born Marilyn Newton on January 15, 1942, in Hopewell, VA, she grew up in Hartford, Kentucky, and Derby, Kansas. She graduated from Derby High School in 1960 and completed her education at Air Capital Business College in Wichita, Kansas. She began her career in office management at Glickman, Inc. in Wichita. For more than 20 years she was the office manager at Charco, Inc., in Saraland, Alabama. She retired as a business administrator at age 70 from Citronelle City Hall. At the age of 22, she met her husband, Manly Patrick, who was stationed at McConnell Air Force Base. The two had a whirlwind romance that lasted 55 years and were blessed by five children, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. As member of Citronelle United Methodist Church, she taught children’s Sunday school, sang in the church choir, was a member of the United Methodist Women’s group, and served on the church’s Administrative Board, most recently as worship chairperson. She was also a member of the church’s Quilting Angels who make quilts for military veterans. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, and traveling. In recent years she took family road trips to Michigan, Montana, and Maine. She is survived by her husband, Manly Patrick, their children and spouses Renée Patrick; April Patrick (Adam) Gomez; Esther Patrick (David Yntema); Rebecca (Mike) O’Connor; and Jonathan (Michelle) Patrick; grandchildren Ansley Patrick; Adam, Jr., Reyes, and Anastasia Gomez; Zane and Calvin Yntema; Audrey Kerr and Anders Patrick; and great-grandchildren Reyes, Jr. and Isaac Gomez, and Aurora Gomez. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Gertrude Newton, and sister, Beverly Kay Dillard. The family will receive friends and family on Monday, December 2, from 6-8 pm at Citronelle United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 3, at 11 am at Citronelle United Methodist Church. Memorial gifts may be made to Citronelle United Methodist Church.
