Obituary for Marion Janice Colvin Wilson

Marion passed away on May 21, 2020 in Mobile, AL. Marion was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Carl Arthur Wilson; her parents William Carl Colvin and Velma Clawson Colvin; brother William Colvin; son Kenneth George Wilson; and two infant daughters Susan Elaine and Martha Ann. She is survived by her daughter Catherine (Billy) Wilkerson of Mobile, AL; grandson William Dean (Allison) Wilkerson and great-grandson Hayden Scott Wilkerson of West Monroe, LA; granddaughters Teresa Anne (Clark) Dorman of Orlando, FL; and Stacy Michelle (Doug) Sherrard and great-granddaughter Abigail Claire Sherrard of Goodlettsville, TN; sister Maxine Strickland of San Angelo, TX; niece Debbie Averitt; and nephew Steve Strickland.
Marion was born in Flat, Coryell County, TX, grew up in Rockdale, TX, graduated from high school in Freeport, TX, and majored in journalism at Louisiana Technical College in Ruston, LA. During WWII she left college to work in civil service as a medical record professional at Camp Swift Army Hospital and then at Shepard Air Force Base Hospital in Wichita Falls, TX, where she met and married Carl Wilson, her supervisor in the Separation Department, on November 20, 1945. They lived in Michigan for five years and moved to Monroe, LA, in 1950. Marion worked for Olin Matheson and many years with Tom Gates Printing Company before opening her own business, "Marion's Gifts European" in Monroe, LA. In search of unique items for her gift shop, she and Carl traveled on numerous buying trips to markets in the USA and nearly every country in Europe, until she retired in 1997. They lived in Monroe and West Monroe for over 62 years before moving to Mobile, AL in 2012, to be near their daughter Cathy and son-in-law Billy.
Marion and Carl were members of Providence Presbyterian Church in Mobile, AL, where a joint memorial and celebration of life service will be held at a later date for both Marion C. Wilson and her dear husband Carl, who died on March 17, 2020. Their pastor Rev. Mary Clark will officiate. Cremation Arrangements are by Ascension Funeral Home, 1016 Hillcrest Road, Mobile, AL 36695, and Marion's and Carl's cremated remains will be interred at Mulhearn Memorial Park in Monroe, LA, under the direction of the Mulhearn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Providence Presbyterian Church, in Mobile, AL, or a charity of your choice.
From Marion's favorite poem:
Miss me a little - but not too long...
Miss me - but let me go
For this is a journey that we all must take
And each must go alone
It's all a part of the Master's plan.
